He stands looking directly at you,
Piercing you with his eyes,
Smirking…
You taste defeat again,
Another battle lost.
Look at you… pathetic,
Tired and worn,
Bruised and ashamed.
Look there he is…
The one that beat you,
The one that constantly mentally kicks the shit out of you and stays close to remind you.
Look… Look back at him!
He looks backs at you in the mirror,
Your only real enemy.
You can’t attack this enemy,
You can’t starve him,
You can beat him down,
Shit, how many times have you tried that and failed.
None of it will work,
Nothing you can say,
It will only anger him more.
I have it!
Let’s pretend he doesn’t exist,
Ghost him.
Focus on your happy self,
Ah distractions,
Illusion.
It won’t last long, you know it won’t,
His revenge will only hurt more.
Every corner you turn he is there,
Always watching,
Listening.
It’s exhausting to know when he will strike again,
Leaving you battered on the floor.
He is your only real and greatest enemy.
In the story of the Cherokee Indian, the grandfather tells his grandson there are two wolves inside us all,
A good wolf who does what is right, lives in harmony, and causes no harm and an evil wolf who is angry, jealous, and is full of hate.
They are both caught in an inner fight which leaves us in conflict with ourselves.
“Which wolf wins?” said the doting grandson.
“The one you feed” said the wise grandfather…
Woah… Shit… Mic drop…
Such a powerful tale of overcoming inner conflict, I bet you just can’t wait to feed the “good” one and starve the shit out of the “bad” one inside of you!
In theory this sounds simple and easy…
Well, its not, not at all because you are talking about harming a part of yourself. A part which you will need at times in your life.
The only way to “win” is to have no loser.
Let me explain… If you feed only the good one and starve the bad one, the bad one will always be lurking around every corner waiting to attack, scheming on ways to trip you up like Wile E. Coyote in the Road Runner. His hunger will not only cause him to be bad, but ruthless.
The inner feud will not stop, in some ways it will increase.
When you have inner conflict, it leaves you weak minded and open to harmful distractions, hurt, and bad decision making.
To obtain true inner peace, you must learn how to feed both your good and your bad.
Your only real enemy is you, the one who looks back at you in the mirror.
Let’s get rid of the daily self-sabotage, insecurities, and negative destructive talk.
You must learn to feed them both.
Get to know who you really are and help both sides know when and where their place is in your life.
There will be times when you need good, caring, kindness, softness, and the right way and there will be times you need to stand up for yourself and be aggressive, assertive, and not so kind.
This is not a time to shrink. That person you see in the mirror is your only real enemy, but he is yours and you can make him work for you not against you.
Look in that mirror again and see who you really are,
Look at who you can become,
Look at you… bold, brave, smart, and living.
Work with who you see,
All parts,
You are the good, you are the bad, and you need both.
